So, here I am, sitting at work and browsing through some aviation blogs while I should really be doing some work or studying to renew my dang-blasted ATPL which is about to expire because of some silly underlining clauses in the CARs. GRRRRRR!
Shame on me, I know! I should know better than to wander the interwebs in search of aviation rumors, but hey, that’s what pilots love the most!
Anyway, if you follow the link that I will share with you in a second, you will find a very interesting bit of aviation history/news. It’s not new, thus the term “history” but its still pretty interesting. I mean, seeing as it involves an american airline landing in Iran, waking up the president, FBI, etc etc…
But the punch of the story is really this: Apparently, although the crew did a magnificent job working together and with other entities that were involved, their OWN company dispatch told them that, because of their decision to put safety above all and land ASAP (in a hostile country that is), they were “on their own”. Talk about being put in front of the gun!
If there is one thing I am grateful for is that our beloved Ornge Air has a strong support policy for its pilots, and has never once failed to help us through tough spots when other managers would have called it quits. Big thanks to our lord and master: Jim the Chief Pilot!
Oh, and I found this bit of news via @KarlenePetitt on twitter. If you aren’t already on there, go get an account and follow this amazing woman because she must be one of the most accomplished pilots I’ve met so far (just read through her blog and you’ll believe me!)
Now, here is Wendy with the Weather….

Thanks for sharing this story! The most interesting thing is that getting in wasn’t the issue. It was really getting out. CRM works on the ground too! Now get back to studying. lol.
Too late for the studying, I think it’s a lost cause today. Just got dispatched to Toronto. Clear skies up here so would rather be flying than anything else! And I can’t imagine the tremendous efferts everybody had to put into getting that NWA airplane off the ground in Teheran. Crazy!

Yes… and what are the odds that captain spoke Farsi? So very interesting.
Clear skies are great! And… you’re cleared for takeoff … Approval for the paramedics! Pictures in the seats… submit your entries!
